I just got a peculia clown fish and it is swimming nonstop back and forth across the tank, the temp of the tank is 80 degrees and I acclimated it for an hour. Is this normal behavior?

Better than swimming under a rock and hiding. He sounds happy, try feeding a little.

The only thing that I can think of off the top of my head that MIGHT cause him to dance around a ton MIGHT be elec current. You could test with a voltage meter just to make sure that nothing is leaking stray voltage.

Percs swim like that. It's normal. Every one I've had does that. Always, unless they are "sleeping"

I'm also new and selected a clown (maroon) for my first salt fish. From my observation he always is swimming back and forth in the currents, I see him looking for food. Even at the store I noticed he staying in the current stream swimming quickly. At night he goes to the same upper corner of the return screen. He seems very healthy to me. Good luck and welcome to the hobby from another rookie!

Its normal my black and whites do that all day and I've had them for some time now.

Its likely he is hosting that upper corner. One of my clowns does that. My Maroons hosted the overflow in my neighbors tank for 3 years before he gave them to me. I put a nem in and they went right to it and never left it....I sold them all a few months back, maroons can be viscious to other tank mates and SB.
