You could probably get away with six 400mhs 24" above the water with really good reflectors, with the 400s I'd use 20k bulbs

What do you mean by "MHS" ?

I have (3) MH 400W 20K about 3 inches from the water. (Is that too close for some reason?) I do have room for (3) more in my home made lighting holders but havent decided to spring for the extra $ to add them.

The (16) T5 Super Acitic light are going in this weekend. They will be about 10 inches above the water in the front area of the tank.

MH single ,MHs multible the reson I was thinking higher with the fixture was more covrage and 400watts your par should be just fine with 24" deep tank. I'm running four 250s over my tank with great growth tank is 84"x24"x24",bulb hieght from water 12" above the water some may say this is two high but I've bleached corals by raising to high on the rocks and fined they do best at 8" and below here's pic of my curent lighting on that tank

Nopi - Sweet tank man.....I love those dimensions

How often are you changing water? Any plans to upgrade the sump, skimmer and UV?

I've changed out about 100g every 3 months. As far as upgrades, no immediate plans unless I find out there's something I need to do to insure there welfare of the system. A refugum seems to be my next equipment ad-on i'm focused on.

Go cheap and get a 100 or 150g rubbermaid feed tank from a farm/tractor store and roll with it.

I dont think I've ever seen a farm or tractor store around here... I'll check into that though. So the refugium doesn't need to be clear for any reason?

Here's a couple of shots that show the enclosure and how I designed easy hood access by have 3 removable panels. Also the entire top comes of in 2 minutes and is held up by tension chains so that the top front pushes against the top sides holding them up.

Nope. Only if it is a display fuge. Bottom line it is used for nutrient export and a place to replenish pods and other small organisms for your tank

I had no idea you could have the lights that high off the water for a 24" deeep tank. Unfortunately my lights aren't easily height adjustable at this point.

Tractor Supply Company. Or just keep an eye out on the FS threads here as they come available from time to time.

Incredible set-up you have there. Welcome to the ARC.

Amici;571334 wrote: That is one awesome sized tank. The issue though with a tank that size is getting corals placed correctly. What I would suggest is concentrating your lighting over certain areas of the rock work and placing corals accordingly. I would place some hardy SPS up top, moderate light softies and LPS in the middle and polyps/kenya trees down on the bottom. You may have to look at altering the way your lights are hung in order to make it easier to keep corals. :(

Thanks for the info...
