Thing is that companies don't exist to offer services (most of them). They ARE in it to make money :) You think hospitals charge a "fair" price for having a baby haha?

The vortech is out there, not to help the marine aquarist, but to make money. What is a "fair" price to the seller depends on what the competition is selling and for how much.

all that being said... i know you were saying how much YOU would sell it for... being a nice guy... so no offense :)

I'm sure they will sell a boat load of them! I hope they make a bunch of money! I like rich people . I never made a dime off of a poor man!

its not that it isn't fair... marine aquaria isn't based on some sort of "salt socialism".

im done with this one haha... i c where its headed..

Well if you really want to know, it was my major for 3.5 years and I took those classes. Got through all the "weed-out" classes and finally got to the classes in the field and found them boring as anything I've done in my life, so I switched to something I liked better.

i think i already know the answer... but i asked it for the good of the majority haha

All I'm saying is they are charging too much and

Goodnight everyone

Come to think of it....I am really surprised that pumps designed like Vortechs haven't been coming out of Asia by now? Seems like once a good design pops up there are always knockoffs following soon.

It really doesn't seem like it would be horribly difficult to design does it...

I tell you.. if they would come out with one that is 75% quieter...... Id be purchasing them myself :)

I only have one problem with vortech's, it's that I don't have any. I wish I could afford these badboys.

As for the debate in this thread, seems kinda weird. I don't look down on people out there buying bentley's or ferrari's. I mean, do they really need one? Could a ford focus not get the job done? Sure, it can get the job done, but I would rather roll in the ferarri. If you can afford it, then go for it I say.

I am using poor man powerheads currently (koralia's), and with the amount I have replaced over the years I could have probably bought a vortech mp40 by now.

I guess it's all just relative to the individual. If I was loaded and didn't have a budget I know I would have some really nice powerheads, why not.

To my understanding that design is under lock by the patent, this is why i'm making such a big deal about it and call it market cornering. They patented the actual having the pump on the inside and the powersupply on the outside.

That is what I meant.......You never saw any Asian LED manufacturers worrying about the Orbitec patent that put PFO out of business.

Unless something has changed most of the parts are out sourced and the only thing made here was the controller and final assembly.

I don't think anyone on here has belittled or looked down on anyone for buying one. None of my or your business how they spend their money.
Several members that I have a tremendous amount of respect for own them. Still yet they have not convinced me of vortech's value to justify their price.
I find it weird that some think we are weird for expressing our opinions on a product(not the buyer). I thought debate and discussion was what forums were all about.

That's what's unsettling with me. The use of words like 'prince gouging' and 'market cornering' when referring to a system (patents in this case) that has served as a key tool in bringing this countries economy to the top globally.

Whatever dude, a patent is all good untill it runs out, thats what our economy is all about for a few years someone will have something on lock and then its other peoples chance and then you see the price of the original product mysteriously dropp to have to compete, the economy is based on checks and balances not monopolys
