New wrasse

Picked up a potters wrasse tonight. I've read a lot if conflicting opinions on quarantining success with these guys. Either way he went straight in and within 5 minutes was eating pods and even a pellet I tossed in. Cruised the tank for a while with the blues on then went to bed in the sand. Hopefully he will do well. Sorry if the pic is too big and too blue. Not sure how to resize and my iphone and LEDs don't get along.

Edit: Ps I cleaned the glass after he went to bed lol. Didn't wanna spook him and he was having fun picking the pods off of it.

Very nice....I love wrasses there my favorite. I have a pair of Leopard Wrasses (Macropharyngodon meleagris) in my 300. They've been in my tank for a year now and one of them is actually changing sex and it's cool to see the color transformation.

Ralph or Mysterybox is our ARC wrasse expert. He can tell you everything you want to know about wrasses.

That's really cool. So are they hard to pair up down the road? He's only in a 75 now so didn't wanna risk a pair consuming all the pods if there was a feeding issue. I notice these are a difficult species and are poor shippers is it mainly with feeding that things go wrong? Felt bad for him, he just got to the tank at the lfs and was moved again by me. But he's got the tank to himself for now versus the other 6 random fish he was with so maybe that will be less stressful.

The Macropharyngodon meleagris wrasses are extremely hard to pair up and keep. When they first came in they fought for weeks and I thought they were going to kill each other. Now after a year, there happy as can be.

I really don't know much about your wrasse, you may want to ask Ralph or even ask Jeremy at Sea Atlanta. Jeremy is very knowledgeable .

LFS didn't fair so well with the Kuiter's Leopard Wrasses nor the Choati Leopard.

Now the potters has me worried. Hasn't been out since I've been home. He was confident last night and came up to the glass when I did. Hope he's just hiding. I do have egg crate over the top but still checked all around the tank. Wrasses seem to always amaze me with their surfing abilities.

I've heard leopards can hide for a good while when first introduced. Good luck though! It's a beautiful wrasse. Nemo's had a big leopard wrasse last weekend.

I'm down in Columbus we don't have quite the selection as you guys but we have a couple good ones. The lfs(not sure if I can name non sponsors) he came from has been getting quite a few potters and from what I've seen all eat frozen off the bat. Hopefully he's in the sand I'm just used to my yellow wrasse (surfed through a thumb hole in a glass lid) going to bed and waking up with the lights. I know these can be much more finicky.

Remember to feed 4-6 times a day, when there new, they comsume a lot of food for their size. I have a male and female Blue Star and a M. Meleagris(3 yrs). All beautiful fish, I really have been wanting a potters too!

Yeah I was hoping this thread would disappear. Late Saturday he emerged with the actinics on with a cloudy swollen eye, poor swimming, and rapid breathing. It was not long after that before he was gone. Very sad. Idk if he was stressed or I did something wrong.
