Does anyone here have 1 or a pair of these? just heard about them today from a friend and wondering if anyone has had any experience with them.. found a male and female pair for 150 bucks.. seems a bit steep for a fish ive seen for 20 bucks but if they are worth it and for sure eating frozen and pellet food it could be worth the money

ORA has one mandarin that's ORANGE...

you've not seen THAT for $20

i wasnt saying i saw the ORA one for 20 lol but checking their site it says they have 3.. http://www.orafarm.com/products/fish/dragonets.html">http://www.orafarm.com/products/fish/dragonets.html</a> i dont really care for the "orange" one i like the plain "green" one..

Edit: oops i meant blue not green

unless you're looking for a particular misbar or obscurely patterned fish, purchase from a LFS..

if your only concern is whether it's eating prepared foods.. then you've got to decide whether you want to pay for it.. (if you've not got an established tank ~90+ with tons of pods.. you could starve your mandarin)

the price isn't the issue if what they claim is true.. i don't have any experience with ORA "branded" fish my question is does anyone have experience with the ORA ones that they state are eating prepared foods or is it a tactic that sometimes they will eat prepared foods but if you don't have a huge tank with a billion pods they will die

i don't want to get something only to make it miserable or starve it into eating prepared foods

Just like anything else if its natrall food is in the tank it will eat that first but then you may be able to talk it back into taking the pellets and they do run about 30 $ or so

When they first started selling these, there was a lot of talk from people who bought them only to find they wouldn't eat any prepared foods, so my advice is DO NOT buy one if you aren't able to supply it with its natural food source just in case.

^^ he said it nicer than I...

Just FYI. I have a mated PaiR of the psychedelic blue mandarins that eat frozen. They also eat pods but as soon as we put frozen in the tank they go crazy for it. They are in a species tank with seahorses. They horses or the mandarins would not eat frozen when we first got them. We slowly added frozen brine and mysis with the live pods and over a months time changed to more frozen over live mixture. Now they prefer the frozen with a Little garlic mix. I do still stock the tank with reef pods a and Copepods just for the incase factor.

The orange from ora does look mice though. But I would suggest paying they extra for the pair that you are positive they are eating frozen. It also looks so awesome when my pair does the mating dance. I hope this helps with your decision
