I was just wondering what you guys thought about ordering fish, coral, and invertebrates online on sites such as saltwaterfish.com, liveaquaria.com, marinedepot.com. I am at the stage where I need to order a cleaning crew for my 34 gallon Red Sea Max. I live/work in midtown and just loathe the idea of fighting traffic to get to a LFS which are all OTP now. I went to CBAY this past weekend and thought it was a great LFS. I just wouldn't want to drive up there during the week after work.

check out Tim (Tim8111) he has great selectionand prices on his CUC's--he will even bring stuff to the meeting-if you can wait that long

Ya I would check Tim out...

But as far as the original questions. I order all the time from online stores and love it. Some are better then others but I recommend always using one with a 14 day gaurentee.

If it is your first online order, I suggest staying with the big ones Liveaquaria or Saltwaterfish.com. I have had very good luck with both of them and if you are just ordering inverts, they would be my first choice (besides Tim). When you atart getting into corals and what not, I might shift my advice away from SWF.com to some places like fragglereef or clubzoa.

Tim as others have said. Online prices without the shipping. If you go online my favs for fish in order are:

LiveAquaria.com
Saltwaterfish.com
Petsolutions.com
MarineDepotLive.com

Those are about it for me.

I have only ordered from Marine Depot online-I have had great experiences with them-seems like the staff is very helpful, and helps if you have questions with stuff like how many you can keep of a species, or if certain thingsare compatible-questions Iused to have before i found ARC--, but seriously, if you have the time, I'd check out tim's stuff-his prices are right in line with online folks (if not lower on some stuff-esp. CUC's)--

I would not say "junk". Shipping is free on orders above $75 but they do charge you a fed-ex paking and fule charge. So shipping is really $20 on each order. Still better then the $50-$70 from some other places.

I think like $35 (but don't quote me on that) you should PM him-or call him

Saltwaterfish.com freee shipping on orders over 75.00 . I have ordered from them several times no problem ever

Tim's site is keenreef.com

However, look under the sponsor section and see his latest posts.

Also, tell him what you want and he'll order it.

Also, Sal (horsesziggy) will have his shop open soon and I'm sure there will be a great selection there.

here's a few that I like

Wow guys I am glad for all the positive recommendations. :D

Yes I can ship locally as well as nationwide. To ship locally I can do ground and including the box charge it averages between $20 to $30. If you order $225 or more, I cover all shipping charges, no box fees or fuel surcharges. Free shipping should be free shipping. :)

Thanks,

Tim

If deciding between Live Aquaria and some of the others, one thing worth mentioning is that L.A. doesn't require you to *return* any corpses or send photos of them or even send water samples like some e-tailers do when something dies during the warranty period. I can't think of many things less appealing than packaging up a dead fish or paying to have it shipped.

I have ordered from Marinedepotlive.com the most and have had no problems. The best part is that they box it up to ship around 5:00pm West coast time and it is at your door no later than 10:00am East Coast time....this seems to be better for success (less time in the box).

They also have more in stock than most others...just remember to put in the comment section:

SHIP ONLY FULL OR COMPLETE ORDERS ONLY!!

I have made one mistake here in the past.
