ORP probe calibration

I just bought a probe from BRS for my RKE. They sell Pinpoint ORP calibration solution. It reads at 400. I stayed away from the range type fluid for the variance it has. Seems hard to get it spot on it there is a 75 point acceptable range.

Robb, if this is a new probe, then it will probably look like it is not accurate for a while after you calibrate it. On my RKE, the probe steadily gained about 20 points a day for several days before it stabilized, and with the low O3 level I have now, it is reading at 300.

Also don't be surprised if your controller tank pH readings seem to drop as well when you place the ORP probe in your sump They raise back up to normal after a while.

If the probe reads 200 in the solution - it might also have been 275, so if I set my Ozone to 400 it might also be 475 now???

Robb,

Check out this post from RC.

Thanks Bill,
While it helps me that I probably won't need calibration - it leaves my question open how ppl deal with the 50point spread on the Milwaukee solution...

I like the Pinpoint ORP packets. http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif" alt="" />

In general, ORP calibration is often not necessary, and some meters, even very good ones, cannot be calibrated.

I used ORP in R&D and fought the variability issues, as well. The probes take a while to 'settle down' when placed in new solutions.

In school that would have been an F!
I understoof what Randy liked - but that doesn't relate one bit to my problem HOW to use the fluid with the wide bandwidth...

Don't know the answer to your question Robb, but I have sent emails to Milwaukee before with questions and they were pretty good about getting back to me. Heres the address if you want to try that route:
