Outdrsyguy's 940 gallon DT Build

I'm not versed on vinegar in kalk but if your dripping that much kalk, outside air etc I would double check your test kit or ph sensor. You could add some macro algae possibly. I wouldn't worry about it much though. I don't think anyone really worries about / chases ph. Definitely don't ever put buffer or it'll jack up your tank like no tomorrow. Every tank just seems to have its preferred ph. I just got lucky is all imo.

Here are my params: 9.75dkh, 426 Cal, 1440 Mag.
I'm running 2part and dripping Kalk. 2part dose was at 110ml/day just lowered to 66ml to get the Alk a little lower. The Kalk is dripping very close to a gallon a day. It's mixed with 50ml of vinegar and 2.5 teaspoons of Kalk per gallon and has only been running 9 days now.

Why with vinegar?

I guess that's my problem also. My tank is in the basement. I read online about running an airline outside for my skimmer. I'm worried about sucking in pollen, dust and other particles. Do you have some sort of filter on the airline?

Carbon source, increases Kalk concentration...

I ran 3/4" PVC outside. Inside I put a 1-1/2" section in the line that is removable. In that section I put in GAC. I also put some screen in the outside elbow to keep critters out ;)

I'll leave this at that. I don't want to hijack Rusty's thread. If you guys want to discuss these topics further if you could start a new thread I'll be happy to join in. :)

You can add a canister filter with carbon in it to filter out anything in the air.

Picked up some stuff from the arc expo today!! Shots in the qt.

I'll try to take a few update shots tonight. I'd say there's a little more polyp extension and tissue looks just a smudge thicker. Two corals that probably would have died about now look like they might make a come back. No amazing turn around but things look a little better. Ill probably continue for a month before I pass final judgement. Oh, and the cyano has come on strong lol. I don't want to do the 3 day lights out yet so I'll deal with that in a month or so also I think.

couple before and after pics. Things were going decent until I accidentally left the lights on after taking this pics for two days straight. Several frags really pales and took a hit.

It definitely saved the first coral which had all dead polyps and was on the brink. The others I've seen a hair better polyp extension at times (still not great) and maybe a smidge better color in spots. And of course a couple just aren't doing that great. Leaving the lights on for two days straight was a real setback to about 4 frags. Hopefully they recover soon.

I'm keeping it in the 2-4 ppm range. The cyano is loving it lol. I still consider it new tank syndrome. I put 1,000 pounds of dry Marco rock in it, I'm sure the ugliest will last a little while. I waited a long time to turn on the lights which delayed the uglies.

Okay. Been without power for an hour now. Never tried the generator I bought 2 years ago but pulled it out, gased it up and it started first pull. So far so good. Hope this power outage ends soon or I'll have to go buy gas

Tank on generator. Only running the t5s. Have all the eb8s plugged in also so controls are working.
Here's the tank on generator.

Kind of odd but the pumps are actually putting out more flow than normal.
I tested the voltage at the socket and it's 125 volts so should be okay.
See how the bean animal flow is higher than normal here.

Yup, this pic sums it up. 1:37 am at wallmart buying a larger gas container and ethanol shield. My 1 gallon left in the mower gas can isn't going to make it. Good thing I have an early appointment in the morning! Wouldn't want to get a good nights sleep or anything!

As you would guess. Get home at 215 am and the powers back on. Clean up all the cords and as I'm writing this I hear a transformer explode outside and power flickers for a second. I'm going to roll the dice and head to bed and assume Georgia power can get their sh17 together for the rest of the night!

So a 5 hour power outage. Did the generator save the tank? Probably??

At least I'm ready for the next one now. Only problem is I have to count on someone being home to notice a power outage. I might invest in one of those notification systems. I'll have to check out the prices.

I have an apex. It doesn't tell you when the power is out. You get notification when the power comes back on. The only way I can think of around it would be if you had the apex and your isp internet device on backup battery power. It's also powered from the eb8 so you either need one with very little power draw on it or a huge battery backup device. I wonder if apex reports a power outage if only some of the devices lose power?
