PAR output on blue LEDs

I am impressed!

A friend offered his tank for some PAR readings - 25x3W LEDs provided 250+ PAR through 24" of water - that amount tripled when the full array came on (incl whites).

Why is it that blue LEDs produce so much more PAR than blue T5s (each tested against their white counterparts)?

Any idea what brand LED's they were? I've always been curious about Cree vs anything else.

This was a fixture made with Bridgelux LEDs.

IMHO Cree is totally overrated - yes, they deserve credit for being the first to come up with the highpower LEDs. But since then many other manufacturer are producing the same if not better quality and output vs power consumption factor...

I've always suspected that to be the case but I've had trouble ever finding a true comparison to prove it that other LED's are either as good as or at least good enough. So thanks!

There was a pretty decent thread on RC yesterday regarding PAR and blue LEDs. GrimmReefer and another guy were bouncing back & forth on it. It was very interesting.
