Potassium permangenate

Very potent oxidizer, just below hydrogen peroxide in potency.

If you use this Dylan, I would advise extreme care.

I have not used it myself.

 o, I'm using it! Took care of those pesky corals... Jk. I am awaiting the verdict.

Edit: I will say this:

The hitchhikers could not jump off the rock ANY faster. It was like someone screamed "shark!" at the beach.

That's what most people use it for. I'm just bored and trying to think out side of the box.

How did the corals handle it? I played around with a few different concentrations today. I think I only fried one of the specimens that I dipped.... Oops too much! Hehe.

I'm interested to. How much to use and how long. Dam monti nidus

I dipped this one coral and about 20 sea spiders jumped off! Kinda freaky. Have any of you seem one in person? Makes me reconsider not wearing gloves.

Cool!

Haha luckily, the spiders weren't in my tank. ;)

However, it wouldn't suprise me if there WERE sea spiders in my tank. Murphy's law.

I recall that several years ago Eric Borneman wrote a Reefkeeping article for Reef Central about the effectiveness of using potassium permangenate to erradicate monti eating nudibranchs with varying degrees of success. The success rate varied based on its strength as well as how long the coral and nudis were subjected to the potassium permangenate solution.

It did wonders on cleaning the koi pond. And I've used hydrogen peroxide to neutralize it in the past. If anyone is worried about overdosing by mis-measuring, you can always mix up a very large volume and only use part of it (PP is pretty cheap.) or you can do a serial dilution:

I've used hydrogen peroxide as well as an iodine dip. I haven't dipped SPS, just a few softies and some were not happy with me afterwards. What is the best overall dip - this potassium dip or another substance?

i use h2o2 for dips,wc(the real way to mix salanity)and bleaching rocks (nothing better) forba few years now

Ok. One week later, all corals survived. Even the one I thought I fried.

I went back at it with a different concentration(much lower) and dipped some other corals.... We'll see how they are doing next week.

So far, I'm impressed with the PP and how much the pests seem to hate it. Today, I found more spiders, some chitons, and some weird worms.

I would not reccommend trying this at home ;)
