I am strongly considering another tang, specifically the Powder Blue. I have a blonde naso and a regal now which is my main worry. The PB would be about 1/2 the size of the other tangs though. I have heard horror stories from other people about a PB being super aggressive towards other tangs.

tank is 84" x 24" x 24" and established 1 yr+

lets hear your PB story, good or bad

I had a gold rim, def ruled the tank over a purple and yellow tang...i know its not a pb but similar species. Its always a hit or mess with the semi aggressive tangs

I was hoping if the PB was small, the last tang in the tank, and with 7 ft of swimming room that I could get away with one. Last thing I ever want to do is put a fish in and have to immediately break down the tank to get em out. my tank is doing really well right now but dont worry, ill mess that up shortly..:D

I found the individual fish to be unique. I introduced my powder brown and powder blue at the same time. The brown set out to kill the blue and I had to remove him. I tried for weeks and finally gave up on the pblue. The pbrown was half the size of the blue hippo, and never backed down from any of the others. I think you just have to try and be ready to remove the brute or the battered. Some tangs just won't get along ever

Until a lot of mine got wiped out by flatworm toxin:sad:...
I had a Hippo, yellow, blonde naso and a PB. This was also the stocking order.
I think the key to success is correct stocking order. I too read a lot about the PB aggression so I stocked it last and never had a problem. I never put in another fish after the PB, but word on the street is this is a scenario to avoid.
As James mentioned, they do indeed seem to have idividual personalities. So I would say there is an astrict by most of these "acording to Hoyle" rules.

Just my personal experience...this should be the last tang in your stocking scheme.

Dang it!
I miss my tangs :crying:

I'll tag along on this one because this is a scenario I'll be working through myself.

If you were going to do a hippo tang, PB, Clown and blonde naso... which order would you go in? I already have a hippo tang, but its only 3 inches long.

I am not ready for this to be my "last fish" but would be my last tang so I may hold out until I am fully stocked.

what are other good tang options that would co exist? no yellows or purples - tried a yellow already several months ago and had to get him out.

I'm debating right now if I should add a 2nd PB to my tank. I have soo many tangs already it may be chaos in my 300. I LOVE the PB!

I added a small ~2" PB to a 48" tank that already had a ~3" Purple and a ~2.5" Kole without issues. The Purple I had was the most aggressive fish I've ever kept (I've never kept triggers), and he got used to the PB after a couple weeks. Only issue was I had to make sure the PB got enough food when I fed because the Purple would bully him.

The Kole and the PB got along great. So you may consider a Kole if you're not interested in Purple or Yellow.

Aren't Naso typically the most docile tangs? I've never kept a Regal, but it's a pretty common tang and it seems you always seem them with a wide variety of other tangs.

That was kind of my plan too. PB was the last fish in my scheme. It worked out well.

Dont know much about Clown tangs, but the Hippo and Naso are both gennerally peaceful. For a Blonde Naso to be really happy, he needs a 6' tank. He will grow fast! I added the PB last and the Naso (who was much larger) chased him around for about a day. The PB held his ground very well and were fine after that first day.

I ended up going with a Blue Jaw Trigger for now, just acclimated him. Then maybe a kole and then the powder blue down the road.

Beautiful trigger, esp one that is relatively reef safe.

Pics after he gets acclimated!
