I've read the suggestions on the board, lights out, feed, feed, feed, water change, water change and so on. I have a powder brown tang that has ick extremely bad. It started out with just a small amount, but now it is coated with what I think is ick. Unfortunately I do not have pics because I am out of town and Cindy is keeping an eye on him. We still have the lights off (have been for a couple of days) however cannot afford to keep lights off much longer because of the corals.

Any and all advise is appreciated.

Quarantine and treatment is likely the best/only way at this point.

Unfortunately our hospital tank is out of commission because the return and protein pumps went bad at the same time. We have not had the $$$ to replace them, therefore the 34 gallon RSM is out of commission. I am in Chicago to deal with some family stuff. My parents and I are going to go to a fish place here, I am going to see if they may have the pumps for a reasonable price. Jenn, are you able to get these pumps for a reasonable price, or is there something else you can recommend?

What other methods can Cindy use while I am out of town?

everything I've been reading.... 10 gal Hospital tank and copper dosing will clear it up quickly..

don't put anything in the tank (bare bottom, no live rock)

Anything will do 18 gallon rubbermaid tub, power head, and a heater.

awesome, thank you guys!!!! I will have Cindy capture this little rascal and get him better. I hate to see him suffering!

What kind of pump do you need? If RSM = Red Sea Max, I don't stock replacement parts specifically for them, but I may have something else that might do in a pinch.

Even a HOB filter on it temporarily will work - or as another suggested, a Rubbermaid tub etc.

Here's an article I wrote - there's some info on setting up an emergency quarantine:

I used to cure my Purple tank of Ick when it was younger with garlic soaked Nori sheets. My purple tang would eat them up and a few weeks later, no more Ick. :) Not sure if it was the fact that he kept eating or if he fought it off or if it was the garlic but it worked for me a couple times.

Jenn, as always, thank you very much. I am going to see if Cindy can catch this little guy and get him in a small container. I will read the article when I get back to the hotel later this afternoon.

Thank you to everyone!!

Do you have a grounding probe on the tank? My Tangs ick went away after grounding the tank.

So much for the powder brown. Cindy got home from work this afternoon to find him dead. I went to Petland here in Chicago and got something called Ick-X, they told me that it was a new product. RIP brownie.
