So.....I have built a custom sump from a standard 75g but in talking to ppl, some say pre-fab sumps are more efficient.... I am going to start my 220g build soon and need advice!!! I have two more baffles to go in on the custom sump....

Thx....

I would pack that bad boy FULL of seachem matrix. That stuff works wonders. NO ALGAE. Algae just complicate things.

First chamber: filter socks

In between baffles w/ holes: Seachem matrix

Then skimmer

More baffles

Return.

Looks fine to me. Baffles and chambers. Doesn't need to be the prettiest thing. Just functional.

Well, this is the same design I run on my 75g w/ matrix (20g long)!! Works pretty well.... I made the first section on the 75g sump for filter pads, second for a TON of matrix!!! Middle for skimmer..... Just didn't know much about pre-fab.... I was thinking about running a separate fuge for the 220

You have a good thing going for you, I wouldn't add algae. If you do a fuge, just do substrate. That will give a place for pods to hang out.
