I picked this beautiful anemone up 2 days ago and it is still fully open, completely healthy looking... except it doesn't stick to any rocks in the tank. I managed to place it on a rock so that it doesn't float around the tank, but its leg has white stuff on the bottom and it still isn't attaching to anything.

I am assuming it got damaged when it was captured, but is this something that will cause death soon, or since it looks completely healthy otherwise, the foot could heal?

Other forums I have read range this from, "remove it from the tank, it will die with a damaged foot" to "anemones are cut in half when fragged all the time, leave it alone and in 2 weeks it will be completely healed."

Of course this range of answers is typical of the reef world, but does anyone have any experience or advice? ARC USUALLY</em> gets it right :)

Firstly dont rush to take it out of the tank. Wait until you see clear deterioration and shrinkage of the whole body. Only at that point does it really become a potential hazard. It may have a ripped foot; i can tell you that if its not sticky or not sticking its a pretty large problem. Wait it out and I wish you luck :).

He is definitely not excreting his insides or shrinking at all- still seems very healthy and is fully extended. Just his foot has the white part on it.

I think the base (where the tentacles come out) is still sticky because he is somehow staying onto the rocks without the base being attached to anything, but i'm just not sure if anemones can heal once there is damage to their foot. I am assuming so, since when people do frag them... they obviously heal and grow a new foot, but I never had this problem before :(

This is a good sign, if hes still fluffed and sticky on the tentacles. They use their whole body as a foot.

Yeah but it isn't attaching to the sand either.

Tried that, he just moved it out of the sand so his base tentacles are sticking to the rock and his foot is just floating about 1/2 inch above the sand bed.

I have it on pretty low, ultimately he is going to move wherever he wants. If he didn't want to stay there he would let go and move with the current elsewhere and since he is holding on / is fully extended, I think he is happy with his position, I am just worried about whether or not his foot will heal.

LTA for me have always had trouble attaching. I've tried 2 and both were dontated to others for non stop floating.
