I have my QT up and going. 20 gal long with emporer 400 filter (no biowheels just filter floss) with seachem matrix that was seeded in my DT sump. I have a HOB seaclone skimmer, heater, and themometer. No sand or live rock. I am trying to get 30" lights for the tank. Do I need to have a CUC in the QT? Is there anything I'm missing? Just doesn't seem like enough filter to me.

You do not need CUC in QT, I think you have it covered. Actually I dont think you need the skimmer but others will chime in soon.

If you're medicating you won't want to use the skimmer. Same with clean up crew - none there if you're medicating.

Is the QT for fish or corals? If it's for fish, don't worry about a light. I personally wouldn't use the same QT setup for fish and for corals - different needs for the different animals. If you medicate fishes, you won't want to put corals in the same tank after the fact, because many of the medications used on fish, are harmful or fatal to corals and inverts.

it will mainly be used for quarantining corals....from the frag swap. if fish are placed in there...I will use reef safe medicated foods like Dr. G.

Ah, then that's a different animal. Yep, you'll need lights and stuff.

I'd still suggest using a different tank for fish quarantine/medication. Sooner or later there will be a time when a "reef safe" medication won't be a big enough gun.
