Question about 55 gal drum.

I picked up 2 55 gal food safe drums. (they had olives in them) How do I need to clean these out? I have them full of water right now and put 1.5 gal of vinegar in each also. But I can still feel the oil from the olives. How can I get this out? Some one told me to wash them with Dawn and just rinse very good and let water sit in them for a few days after. What should I do? I am going to use them for fresh water and salt water.

Throw a good bit of regular table salt or reef salt in there and moisten it enough to form a gritty paste. Then use that as your cleaning agent and scrub the drums with it. Rinse and you are good to go.

You could even use some fine grain sand substrate instead of salt you want.
