Guys,
Just got a heads up email from Ecotech that the TIR Lens Upgrade is now available for the Radion LED light. You can get it from our Sponsors that Sell EcoTech products or at the EcoTech parts store. $30 a pair. Not a bad price IMO.

Mods, please move if this is more of a Lounge type post.
Dave

They internally diffuse the light - Then they reflect the light in a more evenly dispersed beam. Basically they allow for deeper penetration of the water column without the spot light beam look. Made by Teledyne I think.

Here is the text of the email I received from EcoTech:

Radion TIR Lens kits now available increasing peak output by up to 45%

Since their unveiling at Interzoo, you have been asking how you can get your hands on a TIR Lens upgrade for your Radion.
We are pleased to announce that the TIR lens upgrade kits are now available!

What is TIR?
TIR stands for Total Internal Reflection. By redirecting more of each LED cluster’s output in a usable direction (in your tank), TIR lenses are able to boost peak PAR levels by up to 45% and total (average) PAR levels by up to 23% beneath the fixture without sacrificing spread[1] or consuming additional power.

Put Your PAR Where Your Tank Is
On the Left is a Radion using the current lens and reflector On the Right is a Radion using the the new TIR lens kit. Readings where taken over a 30x30 inch area at 12 inches from the light.

As Promised…

While many make claims - EcoTech delivers. The TIR lens incorporates EcoTech’s ongoing commitment to innovation and improvement for the benefit of its customers. A modular upgrade for a truly modular fixture makes the Radion an ever brighter solution for aquarium lighting.

How Do I get Them?
TIR Lens kits (2x TIR lenses 2x wire ties) are available for $30 (MSRP) from your local fish store or from EcoTech Marine’s part store.

I got the email today. For $30 a pair it seems like its worth a shot. Who is going to "upgrade"?

Yeah buddy! $30? Placing an order tonight

They've already got an install video and everything. EcoTech is the best!

From the graph it shows better spread at higher levels not just par.
I'm gona weight on your review dave, are you going to run them on your lps tank?

I ordered 8 of them as soon as I got the email.

I really don't have a need for them on the 100 gallon tank. I want the TIRs for the 465 gallon SPS tank. Any additional PAR while not upgrading the LEDs is a bonus in an SPS tank, IMO.

The upgrade is reasonable, so it wouldn't break the bank to try it. Just don't tell the GF!

tell her ill tell her i had to buy 2 new fixtures and she can deal with it or leave :yay:

I don't know how this guy got ahold of the TIRs so fast, but here are some comparative PAR readings of his tank under a 250 halide, the old Radion lenses, and the TIRs. This from a thread on the RC EcoTech Sponsor forum. Strange reading in the middle at 17" depth, only 10 PAr higher, but in all the other readings the gains are pretty impressive.

Aquarium Specialty just put up a how-to video. Never thought it would be this much trouble to replace lenses. Always thought those two screws on each light were all that would be needed. Looks like they realized that the wires needed to be secured inside the fixture too.

The low reading in the middle at 17" is probably from the tank cross brace. Forgot about that.

Related question since you guys probably know. Any update on being able to control the Radions from an Apex controller?

The software is top notch just git a cheapo laptop for the tank or a realy long micro USB cable
