I tested all (most) of my water parms today and everything looked very good with the exception of Mg. It was low (1030).

How fast can I safely raise it? I have the solution from BRS mixed and have been adding it at about 60 ml per day for the past week. Is it safe to add it faster?

Typical tank inhabitant are not sensitive to Mag swings, although limiting it to 100ppm per day as John suggests isn't a bad idea. Watch your salinity as Mag will raise it although a couple hundred ppm might not impact it too much. I add the suppliment to my top off water and drip in in over an hour or so.

Biggest issue with hyperdosing magnesium is that many products contain or produce ammonia.

Little bump back to the top, so would it be recommended to add a capful of prime with every dosing that raises Mg 100ppm?

I wouldn,t worry about the prime. This is the reason you only raise it 100ppm. The biological filtration will make short work of any ammonia created by raising it slowly.

I took my 300 gallon system from 1290 to 1350 last night. I added 1.5 liters of Randy's 2 Part. I'm always amazed at the volume of mag supplement you have to add.

i raised mine from 700 to 1400 by 200ppm a day last week. but i have no fish. My coral seemed to do fine. But my alk did drop to 7 from 10. quick fix with 2 part though corrected that.

Hey Dave, you added 1.5 liters at one time????? No issues???

I use the mix from BRS and have been adding 2 of the dosing cups that come with their 2-part solution each day. I had been adding only 1 dosing cup per day but there was no real change in the Mg reading.

Perhaps I can step it even more??

On my 500 gallon system, dose on the order of 3 cups (dry) of Mag Chloride with 6 TBS (dry) Mag Sulfate in a couple gallons of fresh water at a time (dripped in over a couple hours. I think you can go quite a bit faster than 2 cups of solution a day...

Corals don't have much of a reaction to magnesium additions. I use a ratio of 10:1 mag chloride to mag sulfate: 3 5/8 cups mag chloride + 3/8 cup mag sulfate added to 1/2 gallon RODI. It is AKA Randy's 2 Part Solution.
