Hey all of you people that are way smarter than me! I need advice on getting my kh/alk (same thing, right?) It's running from 6-7. Been dosing with 8.4 with little to no improvement. Any way pump up those numbers? Everything looks fine and seems very happy in the tank. Thanks you brilliant folks!

What is 8.4?

From what I just read about the product it's used to raise PH not necessarily ALK. I dose Soda Ash from BRS using a doser. They have a great calculator to figure out what your dosage should be.

When raising alk you also need to raise calcium an equal amount. In addition to that your Magnesium needs to be at a proper level.

This video should help you understand the principles.

Something I want to put out there, when I first started reefing, I was doing 2-part dosing and there wasn't much emphasis on magnesium level. Mine was below 1100 at the time and I couldn't figure out why I was having a hard time keeping my Alk & Calc consistent, cause the consumption of the two was imbalanced. It took me longer than I'd like to admit to figure this out, until I raised my Mag over 1400 at the time, and things went much smoother.

Also, I wouldn't say we're smarter than you. We just messed up years before you did. LOL.

When I first started I didn't fully understand the Alk/Cal/Mag relationship. My Mag was good and Cal was in range but I couldn't keep the Alk up. So I kept adding more and more till I turned a good part of the sand bed into a block of rock due to all the precipitate.

Thanks for the warning!
