I have a large abt 6" rose bubble tip that was dead center in the tank. I moved a rock in the tank yesterday (not her rock) and once I took my hand out of the tank she had totally retracted in. I could barely see her up under her rock. Now she is nowhere to be seen. Not even a trace. Do they disappear like this and then show back up? She was in a perfect spot, was out all the time, eating, etc. Then poof gone. I'm stressing here!

My wife's did that once. Came back out a day or two later and found a new home. I was happy; the second spot was picture-perfect.

that;s cool. Mine was in the perfect spot though. How can they get so small you can't even see them at all???? She is a good size

Yeah, a bubble tip can totally deflate and make themselves about 1/10 the size that the normally are... if it moves behind a rock, then you may miss it entirely! If you feed your anenome regularly it will occasionally deflate in order to expell wastes.

A happy anenome will typically stay put, but making changes in the rock work or moving the power heads can cause it to move a bit. I would not be concerned with these movements unless the BTA is moving CONSTANTLY... if it does not settle after about 2 weeks, then there is a problem with water conditions and the anenome is probably in trouble.

Good luck!

But where the heck did she go??!! I've searched high and low and see no trace of her!

She has not vanished. If she is like mine, when it moved the first time, you will find her stinging your most prised coral. After I found mine i persuaded it off the rock and put it back where I wanted. I then waited a day and gave it a big meal and it has not moved since, splits on the other hand have a whole different story.....LOL
