Probably over thinking this, but want to check regardless.

Just picked up a small Bta on Friday. It doubled in size since - pretty sure it just needed a bit of tlc. The problem is that both last night and tonight it withered down to almost nothing. Rebounded completely yesterday and was even bigger. I get home today and its shriveled and looked like it was swallowing itself.

Most of what I read seems to suggest it's pooping since there is no loss of color, foot is still attached and its not melting. Just wanted to see if anyone can put my kind at ease on this guy's health.

Meant to add more, the first pic is of it at its worst, the second is a little bit later on. It's at the bottom of the tank (obviously, I know) 28"ish. 1 20k 250w hqi is about 8" from the water line.

Yea it's fine. You just got it Friday and it hasn't had a chance to find its spot yet. Give it time and it will begin to walk and find its new spot. Once it finds the spot it will go crazy. When I fist got mine it hid for 3 days. Now I have to put a leash on that thing. Post more photos when it's happy. Enjoy......

I have one that split and both both of them do that, seems to happen more when the light is off.

Just had to poop :)

Alright, follow-up question, the Bta is doing great. Awesome deep red coloration, doubled in size, eats and my clarki has started to host it. Th problem is that it's still sitting in the same place (at the bottom) and the **** clown has dug a creator around it! I've raised my 250w hqi up to around 12" from the water - 38-40" from the Bta. How do I get this thing to move up a bit so I can fix my sandbed???

If it were mine I would leave it be. If you try to make it move it you have the large possibility of it killing other corals in the tank or my fear of it be sucked into a ph or over flow.

My rbta now sits on the bottom and my clowns have dug the same type of hole below it.

Good luck on which ever you choose!!!

I had 10 RBTA's under metal halides, and they all tended to hang out at the bottom of the bottom of the tank.

If you change your light and flow it will eventually move. One tip: once it does move to some place that you like, feed it aggressively in that spot. While the nem does not have a "brain" I have found that it does tend to stay in a spot where it feels it can get food.

Thanks for the info. Just fed him last night so I guess I'll have to wait a while before it goes wandering. I'm planning a 3x 100w multichip build in the near future, maybe the change will cause it to move around.
