Question, I have a RBTA that is growing tremedously. I removed him out of the tank and put it in a basket. I put it in another tank to see if it would split. Would the split be automatic? Or is there a time limit on the nem split?

i have an RBTA the size of basketball in my 210. I have had it for several years, moved it three times and it still has not split. The thing is huge and takes up the entire center of my 210. Still amazed it has not split. Good luck.

Someone told me that if you direct flow at it, the flow would make it want to split. Is that true?

I tried that and it did not work.... Any nem cutters out there?

This RBTA is real unique. Never saw one like this. It's tenticles are orange and lime green and its base/foot is red. It's pretty cool looking. I quess you cannot call that a RBTA or can you!!!

I also have one that big and it will not split. Do you know how to cut them?

right down the middle with a razor. I've heard never done it. We want pics

As others said, a razor blade or large scissors. Make sure you get a piece of the mouth and foot on both halves. I've fragged mine multiple times. Pretty easy.

That's what I have read as well, just cut it in half :) sounds morbid haha

I've never cut one of mine but I know others have and been ok. Once bought a Flame Tip with another club member and we cut in half. Both halves died. I don't know if the stress of cutting is more than it could handle but I will not be trying it any time soon again.

I've watched someone cut one and later got one of the new halves which healed and did well. Just take it out of the tank, lay it on a cutting board, spread it open so you can see the mouth and using something like a butcher knife just cut straight through the mouth and drop the two pieces back into the tank. They heal up right away and are good to go the next day. If I hadn't seen it myself I would have wondered if it really was that simple but it is.

The process is correct, but healing time is several weeks.
I wouldn't move a nem with a fresh cut, infection risk galore

You're right about the healing time. What I meant is that by the next day you can see that they are still doing well. I think I did wait about 3 weeks before I took one home.
