I know several people were looking at controllers and RK is going to have a big sale. The lite head unit will be only $99 instead of $149.

That's a deal! It's cheaper than most dual stage temp controllers (like the Ranco), and is much more expandable!

Yea I doubt it comes with any outlets or anything though. Would be great for small system or for someone with less demands. Saving 50 bucks is always good.

Actually, after reading, it's the same as the L1, which comes with 4 outlets and a temp probe. To get the outlets themselves around $80, so to get a head unit for an extra $20 is a no brainer. I was planning to order another PC-4 anyways, but I could get the head unit too!

Are these only suitable for small systems? Is it because of the number of outlets? I was thinking of trying to pick up a RK1 or 2 and give it a whirl.

That has my nano-build written all over it! Good find Joe!

Jess, I'm using the L3 on my 75 right now, and it will go on my 90. The only limiting factor I have encountered so far is there are not enough low-power outlets. If you put a maxi jet or aqualifter on outlets 2 or 3, it will not turn off, it has to go on outlets 1 or 4. I have a MJ for my kalk reactor, 2 aqua lifters, moon lights, and a set of fans...5 needs, 4 low power outlets. You are limited to 4 modules, which would be a total of 16 outlets, or 12 outlets and a SL1 module, or 8 outlets and a SL1 or SL2, etc. I'm probably going to upgrade to the Elite later this year, but this system is awesome bang for the buck.

I remember hearing about that and it has as to my fear of trusting these things. Let ma ask you if you put you heater to a max setting of 80 and the controller to turn it on at say 77 to 78 how can it fry your tank unless both the controller and the heater thermostat itself fail.

I guess I want to understand so it won't happen to me.

It's no different than putting the heater on a Ranco or other controller. If you set the max temp on the heater then you would need a failure of the heater and controller.

Since I installed my RKL, my temperature hasn't varied from 78.4-78.6. My heater comes on at 78.4, turns off at 78.5, my fans come on at 78.6, off at 75. The tank used to run at 80.8 at the end of the light cycle with my a/c thermostat set at 76.

not a bad deal. If you could expand it to do ORP, and it can email you with problems then thats pretty much all I would want.

The SL1 expands to ph, ORP, 2 switched inputs, and another temp probe. The RKL does not (and it doesn't appear that it will ever) work with the NET module that does e-mail, that would require the Elite. Sorry to come off sounding like a salesman for DA, but I will not set up another tank without some kind of controller after having had this for a month and this price is an awesome value.

If you set up your max on the heater to 79-80 deg, then you can't have a temp spike due to your controller keeping your heater on too long. That's how I had mine set up. Redundancy is what it's all about!

Geez, that didn't take long!

I was just looking at the RKL "Levels" on the DA site. The RKL Level 1 is $99, Level 2 has an SL1 input and is $209. If you just get Level 1 and buy an SL1 separately, the SL1 is only $70, for a Level 2 equivalent for $169.

Weird pricing structure there.

Has ARC ever done a powerbuy for control systems?
