i have a REALLY great stand that my dad (rip) helped me build a few years ago that I want to refinish for my new tank project.

The doors and panels have a raised rim around them that we made out of poplar (has some cool grain), but the inside of the panels are just a basic oak color. I would LOVE for it to be black, but I don't want the grain to show through.

I was thinking something like a black colored poly, but I couldn't find such a thing. I COULD pour it since it all has rims.. .

any suggestions? I want it black and shiny

If you used an ebony colored wood stain or dye, you should be able to get it black. Research coloring polyurethane online. Generally, it's going to take longer to cure when mixed with a wood stain, but it will yield the results you are looking for.

Alternatively, it you go to a paint store like Sherwin Williams, they can mix the poly for you.

Good luck... Let us know how it turns out!
