Hey guys, I would like to know what do you guys think about Rowa Phos and how much should I use for a 34G solana, I'm planning on using this media in a Phosban Reactor 150 made by Two little Fishes. Thanks for your time

If you choose GFO, you’ll need to start VERY SLOWLY! Use 25% of the recommended media, slowly increasing every 2-4 weeks. You need to acclimate your tank inhabitants over at least a 2 month period especially is you have any stony corals. Once acclimated you’ll need to change your Iron based media in the phosphate reactor more often. Your media will get saturated in 2 weeks or so depending upon how much is bound up in your rocks, tank, algae, etc. Use less media, change every 2 weeks. Use a great test kit like DD Merck, Hack, or colormeter or send to AWT. If you already have a fuge & reactor, be aggressive & change the media every 2 weeks.

When you do your water change, take the end of the hose and suck all the algae down like a vacuum. It'll take a few water changes, but it works (especially after the phosphate remover kicks in)

so start slowly, like 2-4 tablespoons or so.

Thanks for your help and all the info, my main problem is not how to use the GFO since I did my homework about them. Now my problem is that I have Rowa Phos but there is very little info on how much to use lets say per gal, the instructions on the bottle is not good at all since it just explain how much PO4 will remove in 100 gal of Saltwater using the whole bottle. Now I do not have an algae problem at all, but I would like to feed more food to my corals and fish, so I'm adding the reactor to my Solana. My PO4 is around .07 and I'm trying to lower it even more and then start to feed more and try to keep it low.

And for my test kit I'm using an Elos which is not the best but I did compare with a DD merk from another reefer and it read the same for that particular test. Thanks again and I hope I could get some more help on the amount I should use to start this BB. If the info is given in quantities of TSP that would be awesome

Sounds good! I don't no if you missed it or not, but near the bottom of my post I suggested 2-4 tablespoons at first. Change it every 2-4 weeks.

Well, compare the cost of an elos to a DD Merck, and you will see that the elos is "cheap" ;)

But anyways, elos is good enough.

He's talking strickly phospates compared to DD Merck, HACH, & colormeters. Don't worry. Elos is still better than most on even phosphates.

Well haha I did not see it, I got confuse with your signature hehe  . Now Elos make great kits, but for most reefers, the D-D Merck or a Martini Phosphate Photometer Kit, is the upscale PO4 test. Now they are very expensive and not many people are willing to pay the extra $$$ for it.

A D-D Merck is sold around $77.95, and the Martini Phosphate Photometer Kit is sold around $160.99. Now the Elos is around $30, so you make the math on what you are willing to pay for your test. This test kit (not Elos) are sold by one of our sponsor at those prices, I'm not posting who since I'm not sure if we can say it.

The main issue I have with the Elos PO4 test kit is the color chart they use which is very confusing the color chart starts with a very light blue color for .01, then it gets darker for the .05 reading, but it gets lighter for a .1 reading. so when you are trying to read between .01 and .05, you will get a very similar color to .1, so on what side of the color chart are you really on, the .01 to .05 or the .05 to .1. Now I think Elos corrected this but the test kit I got might be the previews version, but I'm not sure. I hope you can understand my english haha

Hey guys I have my Rowa Phos running on my reactor, now I'm not sure if I have enough flow going through it since the median is not jumping around. The media is mixed with some carbon so I'm not sure if the carbon might be the reason why I do not see any jumping or boiling effect on the media. The reactor is hanging on the back of my Solana and is being powered by a Maxi-jet 400 which is rated for 100GPH, but is going up against gravity by 20" so it should be less that 100GPH. Now do you think I should get a bigger pump or that should be fine???

In my reactor, I had a MJ-600 hooked up and when it was wide open it was barely boiling the media. I now have a 900 hooked up and dialed back just a bit and the media rolls just like it should.

Well I started with a 600 but I had to dialed down thinking that it was too much. But the 400 is seems to little, and the 600 start to make a lot of noise when I dialed down. Hey Au01st how far is your reactor from the pump, my is about 18"- 20" going up and thats why I think I do not get enough power from the 400.

Umm I guess I will go get the 600 again, now how fast is the water going through the reactor, or do you just watch for the media to jump a bit and do the boiling thing. I though the water shouldn't go more than 30gph or something, at least thats what the reactor instructions suggest.

The media should only look like the top is about to boil or "perk". Otherwise the media will get pulverized and float into your display. Use the slowest powerhead.

Start out with 2-4 tablspoons increasing over 2 months to a max of 12-14.

I can see the top of the media rippling, and I can see the sides of the media moving a bit.

This is about how mine looks, less media though.

that's way too fast, IMO.

Well when I used the 400 the media would not move at all, but it is mixed with some Carbon so maybe thats the reason why there is no movement. Today I installed the 600 and I dialed down till I can see the media moving just a bit, but the 600 make too much noise when I do this.

OMG check this guys tank is just dumb, check his fish selection for such a small tank.
