I have ditched my chiller since switching to LEDs. When I removed the chiller, I took off the u/v to clean it. I'm thinking about only running it during the night when temps drop. The only time I feel I need to run it is when adding a new fish to the tank (ich). No, I don't QT.
I would think that it would be most effective during lights out when the theronts are free swimming anyway. Thoughts

I only run mine at night. Now that I have my chiller online, I'll be running the UV during "lights off".

Your avatar makes me want to vomit.

Invest in a QT tank, you will sleep tight knowing a new fish isn't killing your oldest best friends.

I don't understand this, I know you have a huge emporer like over 300 watt Uv right? I assume you get alot of heat out of it. You said now that I have my chiller online I will be running it during lights off. Did you mean the other way around. Just trying to understand the logic behind the statement.

he probably meant that he didn't run it during lights on because it just adds to the heatload (which is already high because of the lights)

A lot of people run their UV at night..

I prefer to run my UV during the day because my pods are more active at night.. so I would rather run the UV when the pods are "hiding" and turn it off when there's more likelihood that they could get zapped by it.. (nighttime)

yeah I got that part but I was just wondering if he decided to run it during the day now because he has the chiller online. I'm intrested in hearing all the options on these because I got one not to long ago and like to do my research before I hook up and he usually knows what he is talking about. He also likes the same brand I do

This is also a good point there Ron

I run mine 24/7.....I may try a night cycle although Im not sure of the benefits other than reducing heat

I used to run mine 24/7, as it will be the most effective this way.

However, to reduce my heat and power load, I decided to run the UV at night only (real night, not just night for the tank). Now that my chiller is online and can keep the tank cool, I will run the chiller during the hours the lights are off.

I have a HO 320 watt UV; 12" diameter, 4 ft tall :D

I have no heat issues since I hooked up my chiller and my power bill is acceptable, and I dont mind replacing my bulbs often.....so I guess Ill just keep mine on 24/7

114W Aqua UV
