sanity salt by seachem

Are you aware that aquavitro and seachem reef salt are manufactured in two different facilities? The reef salt is manufactured in the same facility as Instant ocean, reef crystals, and a few other brand salts.

Was not aware of that but am not surprised and actually would make plenty of sense that major brands of salt come out of same manufacturing facility.

I am not stating that these are the "same" salts, by any means... But how different can salt be? NaCl.... Sodium chloride. Plus a ton of other trase elements, but a chemical compound is a chemical compound. Different concentrations of compounds are one thing, but you can't make one NaCl molecule any different or better than the next NaCl molecule.

Saltwater isn't just salt!

I can't say how good it is nor how bad it is . I have used Salinity,Reef Crystals,H&W Marin mix, Ocean pro,Oceanic ,Tropic Marin and Instant Ocean. I did not notice one thing different about my tanks when using any of those, my wallet however did not fare as well with most of them. I've used Instant Ocean the longest. I've seen several different brands promoted in the front of the store but mostly Instant Ocean poured in the back of the store.

I used Salinity for a bit over year. Overall I think it's a good salt. And I like that it's measured for 35% so you're getting full value.

My complaints:
Issues with calcium levels. The buckets really need to be better mixed. I've had low levels and then high levels all from the same bucket. It's like some areas of the salt mix are different.

Low alk levels. I know Seachem says the water should be used very shortly after mixing. That tends not to work for me so I end up having the water sit for few days until I get time to a water change.

Does it stink or what??!!!! When you first go to mix, man does it have some odor to it!! :wow2:

Oil fan described my experience with salinity and I went thru 3 buckets giving the product a fair chance.
I ask the owners of the LFS I frequent and find they either use reef crystals or instant ocean so those of us who feel the need to go exsquisit in our salt go figure why the people who do this proffesionaly DON'T

Lol people who do it professionally usually are going for the best value... Is that because they have come to the realization that a $100 bucket of salt isn't going to preform much differenlty than a $50 bucket? Or are we cheap???

I'm sure my bf isn't cheap when it comes to his tank. But he refuses to use salinity. I think it's preference. IO works well for us.

I think stores use the cheaper salt for the same reasons I do....

IMO, premium salts have more buffers and trace elements, which extends out waterchages. If you know you are going to be changing the water on a regular schedule anyway, the added buffers and elements become less important, and price becomes the motivator.

That being said, if Salinity was available in smaller quantities (I only have a small nano) I would purchase it anyway....

Dakota, that is probably a good way of looking at it.

Maybe a high end salt would be better for a softy/easy LPS tanks. For those of us that keep sps and clams, you'll be dosing or using a reactor no matter the salt. So why not save a buck or two on salt, so you can buy some co2 for a reactor or replacement 2 part

Well this is my first reef salt that i bought. i was buying pre mixed water from a lfs for a while. when i got my ro unit i figured that i needed some salt. i actually bought this because there was no other salt in the lfs. but overall i am completely satisfied but i have heard a lot of people giving mixed reviews and even tank crash stories so i was wondering if anyone has a horror story about it.

I was thinking about buying some Salinity but the cheapest bucket I could find locally was 90 bucks. I just bought a box of IO for 40 bucks @ Warehouse Aquarium. I looked at the latest TOM thread and IO is the salt used. If my tank can look half as good as that then I'm okay with that.

My guess is that most of the people that had is "crash" their tank are not goin to speak up.

rit has it for $69... i bought my second bucket from him a week ago. the verdict is still out for me if its worth it or not....

IMO Seachem is a great product. I buy this salt when it's on sale at amazon for around 45 bucks total cost including shipping. For that price you can't go wrong, one of the best salts on the market.

I believe I always paid about $60 or $70. I always picked it up from Jenn @ Imagine Ocean.

I am amazed how this salt product can create such a reaction and response whenever it is mentioned on this board. I don't believe I've seen another product provoke such a strong opinionated response as this single product gets

What I love about Salinity for a mostly sps tank, is that my parems are spot on, and I am only supplimenting what is being consumed.....very stable....

High Calcium (520 or so) & Mag (1300 or soo), low enough alk (9 or so) to fit my needs!

$69.00 bucks for 220 gallons=great price!

what I hated about IO is that I would have to add tons of mag & calcium and play with it...waste time & money!
