Serpent Star... Bite?

My Serpent Star made it into my overflow and isn't letting go for me to get it out.

I'm sure it's scared but honestly, so am I. It's a large critter, can they bite hard enough to go thru my rubber gloves. Any suggestions on how to get it out without hurting it?
