Skimmer Disaster - Feedback Appreciated

This post is half to vent and the other half to get some feedback:

I own (or used to) a Super Reef Octopus 3000 Internal skimmer. Today, while doing maintenance on the sump, I decided to clean out the body of the skimmer. I unplugged the unit and proceeded to lift it out of the sump. Like an idiot, I lifted the unit out with one hand holding just beneath the collection cup.... as soon as I got the skimmer clear of the sump, the collection cup popped off and I dropped the ****ed thing. It hit the floor and shattered.

The bubble pump is fine and I have contacted Coralvue about buying just the skimmer (minus the pump). In the event that they are willing to do that (which I kind of doubt) I will just buy the actual skimmer and re-attach the pump. Otherwise I need to buy a new unit.

I was REALLY not planning on having to buy an expensive new skimmer at this point, but would welcome some feedback on what other people are using. I have a 150 gallon display and a 40 gallon sump.... I would like something rated for 250-350 gallons.

Everyone's feedback would be appreciated.

Will do. The automated email said that they would get back to me in 24 hours, I will let you know.

I've always got great customer service from coralvue. I would be willing to bet that they can send you a new body. If not, post a WTB I am sure there are plenty of skimmer bodies without pumps out there.

Please disregard the title LOL! Make a mess with tapatalk, no one want a broken lid Lmao!

It happens, I called them and they said the lid was like 10 bucks, not saying the body is cheap but give them a chance before you sell your pump because you'll end up needing a complete skimmer, I never have a problem either with them, great cs for me.

Status: quo

You are probably right that they will sell the skimmer body only. When I first posted, it was about 30 min after I dropped the skimmer, and I was so pissed off that I was probably overly pessimistic

I will wait to hear back tomorrow.

Not saying that they won't because honestly I've never used their products. However if they won't why don't you try just building a body and use whatever your can salvage from the previous. I built mine and it works wonderful. I cam pm you the design I used. Just use the pump that was with the one that broke. You'll spend like 10 to 15 bucks tops and have one that will get the job done very well. :-)

Do they have a phone number? I'd call. I'd hate waiting on an email reply.

Coralvue contacted me this morning and their customer service was excellent! They said that it would not be a problem to buy just the skimmer body being that the pump works just fine :yay: After confirming what I wanted, a guy from sales contacted me and confirmed my order.

Breaking the skimmer sucks, but I am VERY happy that I don't have to buy a whole new setup. I am really happy with how this all turned out... Coralvue has been a pleasure to work with, I would highly recommend them in the future.

Darren, THANK YOU for the offer to use the skimmer, I really appreciate that! Coralvue is going to rush the new Skimmer to me, so I am going to wait for the new unit to arrive.

Glad you got it figured out! Im feeling the love in this thread... mighty kind of you darren! :D

I can not imagine how pissed you were when that thing hit the ground and you realized what had happened. Those things cost a lot of money!!
