This post is half to vent and the other half to get some feedback:
I own (or used to) a Super Reef Octopus 3000 Internal skimmer. Today, while doing maintenance on the sump, I decided to clean out the body of the skimmer. I unplugged the unit and proceeded to lift it out of the sump. Like an idiot, I lifted the unit out with one hand holding just beneath the collection cup.... as soon as I got the skimmer clear of the sump, the collection cup popped off and I dropped the ****ed thing. It hit the floor and shattered.
The bubble pump is fine and I have contacted Coralvue about buying just the skimmer (minus the pump). In the event that they are willing to do that (which I kind of doubt) I will just buy the actual skimmer and re-attach the pump. Otherwise I need to buy a new unit.
I was REALLY not planning on having to buy an expensive new skimmer at this point, but would welcome some feedback on what other people are using. I have a 150 gallon display and a 40 gallon sump.... I would like something rated for 250-350 gallons.
Everyone's feedback would be appreciated.
