I have noticed that hair algae started growing in my Solana. Since I don't really have much room for anything besides the Tunze skimmer in the back. I would love to had a Phosban reactor but then I don't have any place to put it. I have been using one of those phosphate filtering media pad but I don't think it is sufficient. What elses can I do besides chaning water every day..:boo:

Do you have an idea where the phosphate is coming from? I know that our tap water is very high in phosphate, could that be the source? Before we got our RO/DI unit I filled the 30 with tap water and battled phosphates until I got all the water changed out.

We purchased a couple of those mesh bags at the pet store and use them for filling the filter area with bags of PhosGuard until we can get the phosphate down. It usually takes 2 days to get it to zero when it moves up.

Another possible source is your fish food. I notice when I feed flake food, the phosphate always climbs up.

U can hang the reactor on the back. Or you could plumb a small canister filter with media in it. Or if your skimmer is excellent, try vodka.

You could rig a reactor thought the return pump.....T it off and have that run both. You might need to step up to a slightly stronger return but its an option.

Mine is about .08 to .1 ppm...It varies..I tried to not over feed my fish so it is not really the food. I am thinking I might need to change the filter on my RO/DI. I would love to have a reactor hanging on the side but the thought of having it leaks all over the floor have offset that idea.

No reason it should leak if you have it set up properly. Do you not have room on the back to hang it? I'm guessing it's too close to the wall?

Kalkwasser will help precipitate phosphates. Not sure if that's an option for you or not, but it can easily be dosed via your topoff.
