Sohal Not Doing Well

Also you could do the picture trick. Print a couple pictures of Sohal's from the internet and tape them to the tank, that way the purple doesn't know which one to mess with.

It would be better to attach pictures of purple's rather than sohal's. The purple will definitely be distracted while the sohal has time to come out and explore and calm his nerves. More pics of a sohal will stress both fish out.
Also try keeping the lights off for a day or 2 preferably after taping up the pics on the tank to further calm the sohal's nerves while the purple stays in attack mode. Keep feeding heavily and upping the water changes accordingly. Placing a piece or nori around a rock and placing it in the sohal's hideout or near it will help insure he gets more food. Selcon is great to add along with even wrapping other foods in the nori for him

I have a 55 gallon QT running should you decide to remove him and treat him! I ia pm if you need itwould leave him there if you can turn him around . I will shoot you my number via pm.

The Sohal is doing better each day, I think the multiple daily feedings are helping. He ate pellets like a pig again yesterday. The purple is not agressive to the Sohal unless there is Nori in the tank, then the Purple will keep the Sohal away from the food. This is why I'm not feeding Nori and sticking to pellets. I am not going to try and separate him unless he stops eating or continues to decline.

Thanks everyone for the great suggestions and concern!

My Sohal is VERY attactive....probably the most active of all of my fish and I have a Regal and Naso tang (and assorted others). It appears that he doesn't "sleep" like the other fish as he swims constantly in and out of the rocks. Based on that....he would need to eat more than the other fish. Mine is HUGE and GORGEOUS. (my fave fish.....though he is a bit of an A-hole at times). He is the more aggressive fish, but doesn't bully, just flexes his muscles and will chase but not nip.

I never use the clips for Nori, it takes longer to get the clip situated than it does for them to rip the Nori to shreds.

Try crumbling up the Nori and spreading it in the water. Tangs need algae, its their main food source in the wild. They love it. Crumbling the food will make it impossible for your Purple to be a jerk and keep it all for himself. He will be too busy chasing the bits and eating to worry about what anyone else is doing.

Its been a month so I thought I would post an update for all you concerned reefers out there! :)

I have been feeding every day, alternating between the Mysis and Formula frozen foods combo I always have fed and Spectrum Pellets. I am happy to report that the Sohal is doing much better. He is still emaciated but gaining weight every week. He is much more active but still very intimidated by the Purple Tang.

My phosphates still read 0 (I run GFO) but have noticed that I have much more algae growth because of the extra food but I guess it is the price I have to pay to keep this fish. Anyone know of a dry pellet food that is high in protein and fat but low in phosphates?

Wow, hard to beleive it has been 6 months since my last update on my Sohal! :) Anyway, he is still doing fine but stopped gaining weight a few months ago so I decided to treat the tank with Prazipro on the possibility that he had parisites. Getting the skimmer going again after the Prazipro treatment is a bit of a pain (LOTS of foamining) but well worth it, he is gaining weight very quickly in the month or so after the treatment...

Sorry, no before pictures but I did capture this one today... not the best shot but you can see he is getting back to normal! :)

Glad to hear he's doing better. I just lost my sohal and naso. Not too happy on this side :(
