Solana owners, what do you think?

Cool. I just have really been wondering what you ended up doing on your aquascape, after seeing your last thread.

Just curious, why did you guys choose the Solana over...say a custom glass cages rimless tank. Because it was an all in one, convenience of the available stand/pendants, or some other reason?

I was looking at glass cages, and found them to be fairly affordable, especially if you can build your own stand. It looks like you could get a 60 cube for $275. After stand, sump, skimmer, plumbing, and lighting, I'd think you'd come out with a better set-up (assuming you went with used and DIY options) for a reasonably greater amount of money. Of course, I realize this is making a lot of assumptions

pretty crappy camera.....sorry.

I hope it made you happy to see george and weezy in this setup:thumbs:

did you glue the corals to the back or are they aqua mags? i bought some aqua mags for mine and was planning to fill wall as well.btw where did you guys order your tunze power heads from?anyone got the stock skimmer to work right? cant figure where to leave the cup .

also solana owners.what did you do to the back chambers.did you remove stock sponges ect? so far i removed bioball out of 2nd chamber and filled with rubble. still have balls in the skimmer should i remove them and filter pads?

I have the bioballs in the skimmer in C 1.
Left the fiber in C2, but plan to replace with cheato and rubble. C3 is a mangrove "forest."

I used frag mags. They're great! In a tank as small as this, and my impulse buying, I've got to have a place to put frags

Got the tunze from aquabuys.com
The skimmer works great if you dial it in correctly. You need an ATO to keep the water level consistent. I just finished a "mesh mod" on mine an it's foaming like crazy!

Not my pics, but here they are...

I used a drill to drill holes on four of the impeller spokes. I then used zip ties to attach the Enkamat( http://www.colbond-geosynthetics.com/cms/generated/pages/products/enkamat/productfamily/1%C2%A7enkamat.html">http://www.colbond-geosynthetics.com/cms/generated/pages/products/enkamat/productfamily/1%C2%A7enkamat.html</a> )
in place ( I have extra).
This causes the skimmer to pull more air, and thus, more bubbles. Clear?

ive got an auto top jbj just sometimes my skimmer works too much and sometimes not at all.how are you going to keep the roots out of everything. id like to see a pick and explain how you did 3rd chaber. what are the roots bedded in?

how much for a small piece?

Flinster, I'd buy a piece off of you too. LMK

BTW guys, I found this article on RC that tests the PAR values of the Solana 150W MH. I was impressed to see that it was producing about 445 PAR at the surface of the water with the stock setup. It was increased to 500ish with a pheonix 14k lamp.

I got it free from Brandon, our wonderful prez, so it's free for you. I have enough for both of you and plenty of zip ties as well. Bring your impellers over and we can mod them here.
