Starting the new build

hey Rich, do you want my filter sock holder I made1/2” lexan? I'm not going to use it. Do too me not having enough room in the sump, again!!!

It’s a large pain for me so I’m gonna use a 7x14 filter sock and put it around the 2 drains (siphon and open channel). It fits in a 55g tank. Measures roughly 11-1/2 x6 drilled with 2 holes 3-3/4 dia. This fits 4” filter socks. Holes and edge have been rounded over with the router.

I guess the wife is hooked now as she wanted to go shopping for some colorful fish and a blue star fish the other day. Everyone is out at the moment so we now have a pink one but she still wants a blue one.

She also bought online some real starfish handles. She sprayed it with lacquer to seal them but I told her they were more just for LQQKs not handles but she said they still LQQK good then preceded with the puppet show.

Looks great. I love the way it is coming together. Also, I would love to have the filter sock holder. I was getting ready to build one but if I can spend that time on other things it wont hurt my feelings any. LOL I will also reply to you PM about those other items.

got the reactors plumb in and the W/C setup works great. nice not to have to use the buckets. just turn some ball valves and the SW is on the driveway.

not happy with it. I used 1/2 tube which is 3/8 inside on a mag7. this morning the tank is about 81* I got to thinking lastnight the pump sounded a lil'louder than when it was running on the 75. so i'm a thinking that the smaller size is making it pump harder which is incressing the heat. going to change it back to 3/4 up to the valves

Nice thread! Hey - one thought for you - those drawer slides/light mounts are going to rust very quickly and I doubt they'll end up being able to slide for long.

Russ

Thought about it and they are cheap and easy to replace. they are zinc plated with i think stainless steel balls

Is that cabinet drawer sliders? What are they? Do they come in smaller sizes?

Do you have to worry about corrision? Where did you purchase them?

I have two 15 inch LEDs that I want to be able to mount on something and still be able to move them side to side for adjustment possibilities. Any help would be appreciated.

BTW, takes for all the wonderful pictures of your process. The pictures are very helpful vto one whom is not a DIY project type of person.

Tim

I got them from Home Depot. The smallest they had were 14” this means fully open is about 28”. They are the flat sliders about 16.00 each set. You get 2 sliders per set. I mounted them on the internal part of the outer slide. This way when you need under them they will slide to the wall out of the wall.

I used ¼-20 all thread and rod nuts and eyebolts. To attach them to the sliders I used low head socket head cap screws.

As for corrosion I think they are zinc plated and they are cheap enough if needed to be replaced. The roller balls are stainless I believe.

If you need any more info please feel free to ask.

Here are a couple of pics I have just taken. Playing around with Corel Paint shop to adjust the color some.

I'm starting to label the lines so when the wife helps she can read what does what.

here is an pic of the sump from this am. turned the light n for the pic. bean animal in on the right flows to the left and mag 9.5 return pump on the left. I have a RO 150 PS and behind that a mag 7 feed the dual / split reactors. never had a heat issue with the mag 7 and PS on the 75. went t o the 120 and the mag 9.5 and temp went up before adding the mag7.

i have a fan blowing on the sump 24/7 and 3 fans in the canopy to exhaust the heat from the LEDS only when on. i never ran a fan when I had the 6bulb t-5 on.

when uploading I added by mistake but hey it has something to do with live rocks... LOL

scored a new 55g tank from Petco for a sump. I need to change some stuff around and try an external pump and see what happens. dont like the way they give you the discount but it's better than full price. they ring you up full price and discount afterwards. so you pay the taxes on full price.

but i did save on gas it was 3.09 at an Exxon and 3.15 at a shell on 41 in acworth yesterday
