I've worked on a tank (150g) that had a MacGyvered center brace and I had the customer sign a liability waiver in case that happened. It didn't (whew) and he eventually replaced the tank... but we lived in fear of that happening.
It happened to Todd (Washowi) back in 2003 or 2004 - 55 acrylic tank. Christmas Eve at 5:30 PM. They heard a "crack" and then a "sploosh". I worked late that year... (no he didn't buy it from me LOL).
