Ok, so it looks like I'm in a similar situation as Rusty was a few years ago, only now my back is not quite FUBAR. It doesn't hurt too bad at the moment but heavy lifting is out. I guess all the tank moving I've done since I got in the hobby and joined the club has done me in and the new tank weighs about 600lbs. o_O

I've called a few movers to check labor rates and two of them say their insurance won't cover anything over 400lbs. Another quoted me a price of $635, which includes a trip charge and a 2hr minimum with four guys. But they still need to get back to me to see if their insurance even covers it.

I was wondering if with the pool of people we have here there might be 5 or 6 that would be willing to help me move this beast into the basement? I also have a buyer for my old 220, which is now in the basement. Wish I'd left it in the garage now... %&@#$ My plan was to have him show up at the same time as the movers so I could knock both out at the same time but I didn't know it would be this hard to find a company to do the job. I have a shoulder harness and strap combo that works great with two guys if they're big enough. That system won't work with the new tank though and I'm thinking of doing the same thing Rusty did and strap it down to a couple moving dollies, Then use sheets of plywood to put on the lawn so it can be rolled down the hill and around into the back of the house.

I haven't set a time up to go get the tank yet but If I have to I should be able to back a small trailer into my garage and I do have a friend that has one.

So what do you all say, any volunteers to help a brother out? Pizza and drink of choice will be supplied. :D

Let me know when and I'll be happy to be there.

Second thought for you - drive up to your local fire department when they are outside working on a truck or something - as them if they'd like to make $50 cash one morning after shift.

I also have 2 rolling furniture dollies I can bring.

Those are how I got my 180 from my truck, on to it's stand and in the house by myself. If you can get a way to allow them to roll down to the basement that's a great way to move the tanks.

Cant you get a truck in your back yard? Can we toss it in the back of my truck and move it around?

Adam, I'm usually available on Sunday and most evenings and Saturday afternoon. I have a trailer I can bring no problem if needed. But I would be more then willing to help if needed.

Well good news. I don't know why I had 1" acrylic stuck on my feable brain. It's 3/4" and about 125lbs lighter.

If at all possible I'd like to shoot for next Saturday, a week from tomorrow.

The tank is 475 to 500lbs. Don't see how a truck could be driven back there. Would have to drive on my neighbors yard and we've both been spending all year trying to get that area to grow. The other side of the house would be a one way trip without tearing everything up, even with a winch. Plywood laid down so the dolly will roll would be the best way unless there's some big boys that can carry it. I can back the trailer at an angle in my neighbors driveway and it's not that far of a trip from there.

I'm in Flowery Branch, just west of McEver (PIB) off Lights Ferry, which is the road that goes into Aqualand Maria.
