i got 2 heater set 78 . but lately in morning its show the tank temp 75.7 . how is your tank temp this morning

I wouldn't know... I don't have one anymore :fish: :confused2:

Might need to set them a bit higher if you're in a drafty house or keep your thermostat set low......

Not a good idea, he doesn't run a controller so if he house gets a little warmer, his tank will start to boil.

75.7 wont kill anything as long as the change is gradual. Just try to keep temp swings at 2 degrees or less. Honestly if its 3 it wont be that bad for you either, but best to be under 2.

I had a temp swing over 10 degrees a week ago and suffered no ill affects. I had been gone on vacation and my heater failed to operate properly. I got lucky but generally a couple of degrees each day shouldn't hurt anything.

He can set the thermostat up to 80 degrees with no problem

It's a thermostat, it will shut off at 80, providing they aren't faulty heaters, which is a whole different topic.....

How big is your tank? You may need to have two heaters in your tank to keep up with the temp drop at night(when the light are out), both set at 78.

i have 2 heater in my sump and my tank is 125 . with the weather right now . even when the metal halide on . the tank only get to 77.5 . maybe i need a better heater or increase my room temperature

my tank is set to 72 now, so I doubt 75 will harm anything.

its the swing thats the problem, and your only at 2 degrees anyway.

Whats happening is your heaters alone are not enough to warm the tank without the lights on. Just set your heaters to 75 and call it a day.

with 1800w of heater and 1600w of halides my tank cant get over 74 in the dead of winter so I just set it to 72 and dont worry about it.

My tank stays at 81-82 during the day (with lights on), but I have no idea what the temp is at night. I have the heater set to 78, so hopefully it stays like that. By the way the tank is a biocube 29

I have been keeping my heater set to 68, tank usually stays between 72-75. Everything seems to be enjoying the lower temps. The general range is 72-78 (as per live aquaria), so 75 is about perfect.

+1000. Setting your heater to 80 is a horrible idea. Definitely do not consume a ton of energy to make your tank that hot.

72 is money!

Your tank is more than fine at 75. If your heaters are running 24/7, though, you'll want to look into larger heaters or adding more of them.

I have two 300w heaters on a 75gal DT with about 25gal water in the sump. The package said it was for a 90gal tank. They hold the water right at 77*. when the lights are on they heat the water some also.

My Ranco controller should be here tomorrow! Peace of mind......is all I can say.

I've never heard of that controller but never the less it's still a controller. That's the best way to run heaters and chillers. At least that way, both your heater and controller has to fail for your tank to boil.

It's big in the HVAC and home brewing circles. I've heard of many reefers that are using them as well.

ahh I see. I know little to non about HVAC so I guess that's why I've never heard of it. I looked it up and they run for almost 80 bucks, add the price of a heater to that and your looking at about 100 bucks. Why not just get the heaters with the controller that has an external temp probe on it? They run about the same about of money and was design for aquariums. Unless of course, the one that your getting has other features I don't know about.

This one is a little more expensive but it's nice.

There's many brands out there that has something similar but I have faith in JBJ.
