To nano or not to nano?

I have had a regular old 10g tank sitting up in a closet for months now and I'm trying to decide if I want to start a nano tank? I love the look and feel of nano tanks but not sure if I want to start one or how to? Would it be a better idea to save up and buy an all in one tank like a biocube or is it better to buy all the parts I want and build my own nano setup?

Just looking for some opinions and info.

Do it. Put it in your bedroom. HOB filter will work fine. Don't dose, do water changes.

I love my 8g nano. I have a 8g biocube that I got used for 50 bucks and bought a brand new 29g and havent even really used it. Something about my tiny tank just keeps me fascinated. Sure I love big tanks too, but I don't think I would trade my 8g for a 120 honestly.

If its something that interests you, then don't listen to people who say this and that about how hard it is. I started mine as my first tank and it has been doing fine all the while.

What type of HOB filter should I get? An aquaclear? What lighting do you use for your 8 gal?

I wouldn't get too picky on a hob. Throw in some matrix and call it a day.

what he said. it's all the same thing. I wouldn't worry about a canister filter or anything pricey. I would get one that rated for 20-40 gallons though

Mine is a 8g biocube, yes, they do exist! I think there is actually a super rare 55g biocube as well.. but I'm getting off topic. Point is, the lighting is power compact. Obviously you can do better

Yea I wish thinking about that with a clip on fixture. I am also looking at the marineland double bright led fixtures. Any opinions on those?

I love the fluval in-tank filter I have. Since it it totally submerged, it is totally silent. Great for a bedroom application. Has carbon/poly filters and a space for whatever media you want.
