Top-Off Water for a 12g Nano -- Opinion?

12g nano school tank -- would it be okay to just buy a couple gallon jugs of water (like from Wal-Mart) for the teacher to top off the tank?

She needs to keep water on hand, but I'm worried about putting RO/DI water that we've made at home into jugs and guessing at the shelf life. Would this stuff go bad somehow or become toxic or algae-filled?

If we bought water, what kind (specifically)?

Lights are T-5's, so evaporation is not major, which would mean the jug might sit for awhile as it's being used.

I really dont beleave that there is a certain shelf life of it...typically you are pretty close to 0 tds...I have a 55gal drum that my rodi water stays in until i need more and i only use about 5 gallons a week

or if you put an air stone in the water it should be fine
