Hello everyone, the guy at the LFS told me to use a treatment for red algae in my 125 reef tank so I did 2 treatments and then did a 30 gallon water change. My Octopus skimmer is going nuts with foam coming out of the lid and running back into the sump. Should I do anything or just give it time to calm down on it's own?
Thanks,

Scott Martin

It will take a few days for skimmer to calm down this is normal after using chemiclean treatment.

did you use chemi clean? Follow the directions to the T if you did and I havent had anyproblems with it. how old is the tank. Red cyno comes with the startup of a new system.

If you did use Chemi Clean, make sure you have an air pump and air stone, or leave the skimmer on (maybe take the lid off?) so the water stays oxygenated.

Yes, I did use Chemiclean and the tank is only about 2 months old at this point. I treated for the red algae twice and then did a 30 gallon water change. I also dumped my old bags of phosguard and filled 2 new bags and put them in when I turned the skimmer and UV back on. Thanks to everyone that took the time to post a reply.

Chemi-clean has caused the same issue for my in sump skimmer. I dealt with mine by raising the skimmer in the sump, which effectively lowered the water level the skimmer was operating at. After about a week I was able to put the skimmer back where it was.

a peace of 1/4 in airline tubing to syphon out th algi and the decaying matter under it will work out a lot better for you with 0 problems chems to remove algi is like using perfume and not taking a bath suer it smells good but your still a dirty mofo besids that stuf usuly kills your bio filter may wont to check for nitrate/amonia every few days just to be safe
