Got some goodies in the mail today.

Built the beginning of my mounting system. I will be mounting them to two t slot rails so I can slide the radions around and if I add a third I can easily slide it on and adjust. I'm waiting on the rails to come in.

Just realized I never updated this. Got the radions mounted and the reeflink installed. I have the radions at 25% for 3 weeks with the acclimation period on and ecotechs preset coral lighting.

Interested to see how my corals like the radions.

Are you eventually going to go all radion or are you sticking with the T5 combo?

I want to add a third radion to the center to get rid of all shadowing. But I will keep t5 supplemental lighting. They come on about 4 hours a day and I can tell a difference from when I was 100% led with the reefbreeder. My corals are opening up a lot more and my zoas are multiplying a lot faster.

Interesting! Kind of makes me want to supplement mine... wish i hadn't thrown the dual T5 setup I had away... how many/what color bulbs do you have??

I use 4 bulbs. 2 giessman super purple and 2 ati blus plus.

Soo I've been absent from updating this thread since redoing the plumbing and sump and equipment. But the reason is for that is I've kinda put the tank on the back burner and honestly let the tank do it's own thing.

After spending so much time and money And coral loss ($$$) I found AEFW on my acro corals...greeeeat! Must of hitchhiked on a newer addition and eggs got through the dip process. Not to mention a sudden nitrate spike that just never seems to want stay down despite biopellets, gfo, less feeding etc.

Feeling like it is a never ending cycle of bad tank news I put the tank and hobby on hold, I felt defeated. I have had no new additions, no new equipment, and all the work that needs to be done in the mixing room has been halted.

Just maintenance and I've been poor about that as well so to home projects and work. I've done water changes maybe every month - 1.5 months.

Things I've noticed in my hands off less tinkering on the tank.

Glass grows a film of algae quickly.

Coral growth has taken off. My zoas, torches, hammers, frogspawn, mushrooms have blossomed. Even my sps is growing better than ever. Every water change I baster off the sps with RO water and try to get as many AEFW off the sps. I don't have the energy to remove and quarantine each piece so this is my treatment for now and my wrasse is my assistant.

Aiptasia truly is a pain in the butt if you don't manage it. It got bad with the hands off approach and I'm paying for it. I've switched to making kalk paste and I like it much better than aiptasia x and others.

I have more money. Somehow the fiancé or house gets it so kinda break even here.

Sand appears dirtier. Not crisp white all the time but not an eyesore.

Never realized how much time I spent on my tank before because I was in a routine. 2+ hours every weekend was the norm. Now it's been hard to find the time.


I plan to get more consistent on maintenance with water changes and filtration changes but I am keeping the approach of no new additions. My greed to play designer has back fired too many times I will let what I have grow because I feel my tank has found a healthy balance and the corals seem to like their home.

I will post a quick video I shot to give you an updated view. Ignore the dirty glass.

Looks pretty good for the neglectful state you describe!
For the aptasia, get a deal on 5 or so large peppermint shrimp and your aptasia problem is solved within a month. Hopefully your wrasse won't try to eat them. I had to remove my wrasses as my melanarus was a serious hunter.

Thanks. Sometimes i think we do too much and hinder our tanks ability to stabilize. I would have to catch my Flame Hawkfish as well. Redman destroyed my cleaner shrimp population.

Dang Austin! Glad to see you back at it my friend! I know how you felt. I think that we all have been there. I went on an aiptasia killing spree yesterday in my 20 peninsula. They were so darned bad that they were growing up from the substrate. I knocked off about 12 of the little critters with Kalk paste. They came from a piece of live rock that I just had to have about three weeks ago. GRR! I'll be dropping in to see Ed early next month with goodies!

The crazy thing is I have not done a water change in 2 months. I did one around January 6th. My corals are doing great and if you look closely Doug you can see some of the corals you gave Ed. The orange chalice and the starry night sps at the tip of the rock overhang. The pink and orange chalice you gave that was pretty much all skeleton is the size of a quarter now and doing well.

I think my tank having dirty but stable parameters and the lack of human tinkering has really helped my tanks growth.

Sweet! That starry nights is indestructible and looks great as well as the chalice. I agree that sometimes the hands off approach is best for us. I kept a 1/4" nub of the starry nights that has grown to 2" with two arms.
