I just watched a BRS segment on contaminated Tropic Marin Pro Reef Salt. This salt is from Turkey Identified by a 6 digit batch number (German batch numbers are 8 digits). I no longer have the box of course because they are guaranteed to come to your door ripped to shreds by UPS. If you have brown crud in your storage tank (which I do) then most likely you have that bad batch. As far as I can discern, this only applies to "boxes" from Turkey and not the 5 gallon buckets. I'm not sure if my current issues are related but the timing of first use, the death of the few acros I had and other issues with my tank are pretty much in lock step. Tropic Marin is working on the issue and should have a resolution soon...ish.
