I have a tube worm in a 14 gal bio cube, it has been there about 2 months with one fish. All my water checks good. This morning all of its fan is on the sand bed of the tank. It looks like it was cut off. I have took the fan part (I do not know what that part is called) out. I left the worm tube in the tank. Is it dead? Or do they shead their fan part. It has never lost any of the fan in the past. It had also attached itself in the sand and the tube still is.

They shed their crown from time to time. Leave the worm be - soon you'll see a new crown, albeit smaller, but given time it will grow larger than the last one.

Mine did it about a month ago. Now it's bigger than ever.

Mine did this when I moved tanks....the head popped off. I left it the tube portion in the sand where it had always been and it grew another crown.
