I found this article/video very interesting

That is impressive. Appears Tunze has stronger and a little narrower flow in all cases.

You also would have to account for objects in the way of the pump. yea the vortech don't shoot a stream but with objects in the way and depending on the size of the tank; once could create an undertoe that could move water better than the tunze pumps.. tho I do like them i like my vortech better

The only downside to my 3 vortechs is the noise.

The only downside for me is the cost but I got over that lol and the firmware issue which will be corrected soon

All pumps have a flow to the pump over, under, sideways is irrelevant if not there would be cavitation. I agree that the tank size and aquascaping could have an impact on any pump. Tunze also has a different shroud now if someone wants a more dispersed flow.
Paired with one of these it would cover a huge aquarium
