what should i put in here??

the person i bought a sump from gave it to me, and had it running phosban and carbon.

i wanted to use something that didnt need to be replaced with every water change, but i wasn't sure if products like matrix or purigen were made for that sort of application. i also don't know what else lasts longer than carbon.

oh, and i do 10gallon water changes on a 45 gallon about every two sometimes three weeks.

What I meant was, are you using it because of phosphate levels? Something else?
I use Seachem Phosgard in mine, but the particle size make cleaning a pain... it gets imbedded in the foam "doughnuts" and is hard to get out. I'll probably buy Phosban when it's gone.

well, i was thinking of just using it as my mechanical filtration means, since i dont have a filter sock. i just wasn't sure what i should use to give me all around filtration.

another idea i had was to use chemipure elite and purigen.

I use Phosban and a product to reduce my nitrates. I can't recall the name and I'm in Florida right now so I can't really check ATM...heh

I've used one for a little mechanical filtration by filling it with pillow stuffing... works far better than you'd think to clear suspended stuff in the water.
