I am just getting started with, salt water tanks. I have a 210 gallon tank. What type of water should I use to fill it?

I would use the liquid kind....

(Not sure what other "types" there are)

I would use RODI filtered water myself. As far as brands of salt, oppinions differ but I prefer reef crystals.

Oh and welcome to the club

+1 to the RO/DI water

+1 to the reef crystals

+1 welcome to the club

Don't pull a CJ and decide you will fill it with RODI, and then salinate it in tank...killing all the sand that was in the tank like I did :)

RODI, and try the new Salinity (salt) from Seachem.

....and welcome to the club!

For the cost of buying the RO water to fill that tank just once, you can buy an RO unit (or very close to it). You will be glad you did.

As for salt, Seachem Salinity or Seachem Reef Salt, or Reef Crystals IMO. Salinity is more expensive but makes substantially more gallons per pail.

Now THATS almost funny!!!

Get an RODI unit...it will pay for itself the first 30 days

A lot of LFS have RO water that they will sell you, so call around. I think they charge like 50 cents a gallon or so, it has been a while for me so not sure how much exactly. Don't use Public or Kroger filtered water machine, their filtration is basically just couple of carbon filters. Once you got everything set up, you can buy a RO/DI machine to save money and trip to the LFS for future water.

the culligan station at walmart is rodi filtered water and it is only 1.85 per 5 gallons or .37 per gallon

A new or used unit is the way to go. I have two tanks and it's paid for itself many times over. There are a number of different brands but I have a Spectrapure and love it. Whenever I've had an issue, usually user error, their customer service has been great. They have a tech person whose job is to help customers figure out how to work their units. Good luck and welcome!

As a sidenote, Spectrapure is having a sale on DI replacement cartridges. It's not listed on their website but the customer service rep told me to ask for the "Sale Price" and you'll get somewhere around half off. Just thought I'd throw that in there if anyone needs one in the near future.
