using new vortech modes

for the nutrient export mode dont I need 3 vortechs? can they be ANY 3 or do they all have to be 40s?

As far as I know... to work correctly you're gonna need three... or at least two to be the ES versions.

i know they will all have to be the ES.. I have 2 right now.. only 1 ES so far. for the NE I THINK i remember that you need one on BOTH sides and one on the back wall

Pretty sure you're right. I think the master needs to be near the overflow... the others bring the stuff up and the master draws it towards the overflow.

You need one on the back wall and one on the L and R sides. In ES mode you will designate each one by position (side or back). You do not have to have all 40s. The MP10ES and the MP40 ES are fully compatible programing wise. You can use an MP10 for the back wall, but remember the 10 only goes to 3/8" thick glass.

Apparently you cannot use an MP40W (or MP10W) in Ecosmart mode, but you can in all other modes. From the Owner's manual:

>Use of EcoSmart drivers with a Wireless Wave Driver (WWD)
Your EcoSmart driver is capable of communicating with a WWD equipped MP40w. However, the WWD equipped pump will not have the luxury of communicating with your EcoSmart driver in any of the EcoSmart modes. Therefore, your WWD equipped pump will not run in any of the EcoSmart slave modes outlined above. If you have a WWD equipped MP40w and wish to achieve the full benefit of using the EcoSmart modes, we recommend that you purchase an EcoSmart upgrade kit for your pump, available through our online store at http://www.ecotechmarine.com">www.ecotechmarine.com</a>.
However, your WWD and EcoSmart pump are capable of communicating with one another in any of the modes except for EcoSmart modes, such as Constant Speed Mode, Random Modes, Short Pulse Mode, Long Pulse Mode. Your WWD can also be told to go into Feed Mode or Night Mode by an EcoSmart driver.&gt;

The master has to be on the L or R side. Doesn't matter where it is in relation to the overflow. Simplified, NTM is kind of like a standing wave left to right, and forward movement provided by the back pump(s), but each component of that L-R wave and forward movement varies over time.

sounds like it would offer questionable real world results honestly.

so..... just to get it strait.. i CAN communicate between the normal mp40w and the MP40ES for standard modes like.. lagoon and crest and such?

IMO the EcoSmart Mode rocks. I love it. I use the ES NTM on my 300 gallon, one on the left, one on the right, and two on the back. You really need to see it in action to appreciate it. But that being said, do you need it for a successful reef, probably not.

And yes, it will work with any other wireless drive in any mode other than the EcoSmart modes.
