<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: 13px;">I have been thinking about doing this.</span></span>
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: 13px;"> </span></span>
<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: 13px;">Is there a way to keep contaminants from entering the air line and into the tank? Like spray paint or pesticides or whatever. </span></span>

<span style="font-family: Times New Roman;"><span style="font-size: 13px;">Any information on this in general would be great, links too.</span></span>

Depending on the length and diameter of the air line, you may reduce the SCHM of the skimmer if you're not careful.

I have a "T" on top of my Venturi to allow outside air to be sucked in but not restrict airflow.

Do you filter the outside air?

I had mine set up to help with pH levels and avoid pH depression when we had house guests over. It was not worth the effort. I ran 3/4" PVC and converted down to 3/8" line for the skimmer. For a filter I made one out of PVC unions and some plastic porch screening. First a cotton ball, then carbon, then another cotton ball. I put a flow meter on and detected no decline in the air inlet, so that wasn't an issue.

If you check in the diy posting you'll find a post by me on how to make a co2 scrubber. I had ph problems as well. My ph was at 7.6 at the highest. After running it with the co2 scrubber. It brought my ph up to 8.2 during the day. And this is done without adding ANYTHING to your water. It just removes the co2 from the air that your skimmer takes in. I'll be happy to build you one and fill it up with media for you. Pm me

No - my airline inlet outside is in an area where it's not necessary. Just a little mesh over the hole to keep things outside besides air. :)

You can also put the cotton ball air intake filter on it. I am sure other sites have this, however this is the one I purchased for mine. It is the 9th item down the list:
"$6.00 - 1/2 MALE NPT THREAD COTTON BALL AIR INTAKE FILTER" It really is supposed to be used when connecting to a clear housing chamber. I would bet they probably have something else similar to it if you call them.
