Looks like Ecotech may have done a permanent price drop on the MP40wes. $395 is the same price as the 15% off promo in August.

Kind of an interesting move as my perception is that they are the "apple" of the pump/light manufacturers and when you have that much brand presence you don't typically drop a key product 15% unless someone is taking serious market share from you.

Very good point. I guess it really comes down to difference in new sales times the net result for them. So if they sell 10 units and make $10 per unit or 20 units at $7.50 per unit, they're obviously making money with the volume over the same time period. Obviously those numbers aren't to scale.

Maybe they saw a massive spike in sales last month-- I know I bought another MP10 and Reeflink because of it.

I would guess the price stop is r/t their market share stopping from Jebao, and also the market just may be saturated with used ones as well.

Anyone seen current Tunze 6105 prices? Wondering if they stopped too?

I'm with Dave. I think it's simply market saturation. The reefing hobby seems more a revolving door than a fast growing market. Ecotech just "hit the wall". Look for lots more product diversification. Latest being their dosing pumps.
Buying out AI probably left them a little cash poor too, and looking to build the reserves back up.

This is a thousand times true. I've been around long enough now to see multiple generations of new folks come in....get a tank.... get hooked....get a bigger/multiple tanks...have a crash/realize the hobby is a lot of work/is expensive/life stuff/whatever and resell their stuff.

Where are you getting this information? As an authorized Ecotech Dealer, the latest Ive heard from the company itself (on an email 8-20-14) is the Summer Sale is over on 8-31-14 at midnight, and MRP has returned to $465 for a MP40WES.

BRS had it front page yesterday marketed as "new price drop". Not on front page anymore but still a price if $395. Marine Depot had same price but did not promote in any special way like BRS.

I would all but guarantee that they havent taken down their advertising from the Summer Sale, and Ecotech is attending to it, and you couldnt get that price. Ecotech doesnt mess around when it comes to their MRP pricing.

Yeah, I believe that they have them posted, but I'm just saying that *HAS* to be an error or fault in them removing the sale that ended on the first. Ecotech specifically said the MRP went back up to normal, and other online vendors are showing the old MRP.

So, per the original sentiment, I dont think the prices have been permanently dropped, and I'd expect those websites to be corrected very soon.
