I have some questions for you guys that have these powerheads. I was wanting to use 2 of these in the tank I'm planning (36x36x27). I am wantin to have the powerheads on the back of the tank (blacked out). I'm concerned with the fact that they don't have any directional control. It is too much $$ going with the Tunzes that would do the same thing usin a controller. What's the opinion of u guys that have mp40's, will they work since they really won't be aimed at my rockwork. The current will have to hit the front of the tank and then bounce back into the corals. My other option is using mag koralias or two seaswirls but I like what I read about the vortechs. Any thoughts/suggestions?

I was really worried about the lack of aiming when I bought one. I can tell you it makes no difference what so ever.. The flow coming out is incredibly wide! No need to aim them for the most part. My 40 was about 12" deep in the tank and was still agitating the surface and pulling sand towards it in a 24" deep tank..

I tried one in my 93 cube (30x30x24) and it was plenty. I do also have a K4 in this tank pointed directly at the rockwall face to clear detrius, etc. from the rock, but the MP-40 is the OBVIOUS powerhouse. And it's on the right side of the back wall and the flow bounces off the front wall nicely. Heck....even the MP-20 I put in there for a while produced major flow.

If your looking for the MP40 look here pretty good deal!!

List price $755, rofl!

So did Vortech lower their MAP? Or will that deal disappear soon?

Deffinitely don't have money to burn! I was just thinking that for an SPS tank that I'd need more. I plan on running a pretty low return. thx for the idea, I think I'll try that

Did not even notice that. I have been wondering the same thing about the MAP? I'd jump on it if I was in the market but I'm not.

I have 2 on my 150G 60x24x25 and only have them turned about 1/2 way up....

Good. I planning on going with the marineland dd 150. I'm probably gonna try going with on mp40 and see how that goes

If you go back to front the only issue you'll have is that when it hits the front pane it will really mix up your substrate. Unless you are BB you'll end up with a big hole in the substrate in front of it.

Don't worry about not having enough flow with only 1 though.

I have 2 on my 125 positioned on each end and they provide plenty.
